You've been given a picture and this prompt:

  • 25 minutes - 5 minutes for prewriting and planning on scratch paper
  • Directions: When looking at a picture, every person sees a different story. Look at this picture. What story do you see? Use your experience and imagination to speculate about the story being told or the event which is taking place.

Now what; how do I write a story using that picture?

Work your way through each of the first eight steps to the left of this page. Be ready with a pencil and paper to take Cornell notes, or use a Microsoft Word document to create your own Cornell notes, flipping back and forth between the Web site and the document. Save your document frequently and print it when you finish your notes. You can use the notes for study or keep them nearby when you write your story.
